Verbs (19) - Modal Verbs

5. May, might, may have and might have

Question လုပ္ခ်င္ရင္ may, might ေနာက္က subject လိုက္ထည့္ေပးပါ။

May I….? Might I….? စသည္။

Negative အတြက္ may not, might not ပါပဲ။

May ကုိ မေသခ်ာတဲ့အခါမွာသံုးတယ္။

Jack may be coming to see us tomorrow.

Oh dear! It’s half past ten. We may be late for the meeting.

There may not be very many people there.

Polite request အတြက္လဲ သံုးတယ္။

May I borrow the car tomorrow?

May we come a bit late?

May not ကုိ ျပတ္ျပတ္သားသား ျငင္းဆုိရာမွာ သံုးတယ္။ (ခပ္တင္းတင္းျငင္းတာ)

You may not!

You may not borrow the car until you can be careful with it.

Might ကိုလဲ မေသခ်ာတဲ့ကိစၥမ်ိဳးမွာသံုးတယ္။

I might see you tomorrow.

It looks nice, but it might be very expensive.

It’s quite bright. It might not rain today.

The past tense of may for request အတြက္သံုးတယ္။

He asked me if he might borrow the car.

They wanted to know if they might come later.

Very polite request အတြက္လဲသံုးတယ္။

Might I ask you a question?

Might we just interrupt for a moment?

အခု သို႔မဟုတ္ အရင္က ျဖစ္ခ်င္ျဖစ္ႏုိင္တာကိုေျပာဖို႔ may have, might have တုိ႔ကိုသံုးတယ္။

It’s ten o’clock. They might have arrived now. (Perhaps they have arrived).

They may have arrived hours ago. (Perhaps they arrived hours ago).
